
Paris accelerates shift to car-free streets
Paris is taking another bold step towards sustainability, with residents voting to pedestrianise 500 more streets. This move, part of a wider push to cut emissions and reclaim urban space, will eliminate 10,000 parking spots and expand the city’s green zones to over 10 per cent of its streets.
Under Mayor Anne Hidalgo, car traffic has already halved since 2000, and cycling is surging. However, with Paris still lagging behind other European capitals in green infrastructure, the pressure is on to accelerate change.
