Rome’s Fiumicino Airport is setting a new benchmark in sustainability with Europe’s largest airport solar farm. Spanning 2.5 km alongside a runway, 55,000 solar panels will reduce the airport's CO2 emissions by over 11,000 tons annually—equivalent to powering 1,477 homes.

This forward-thinking project not only moves the airport closer to its 2030 net-zero target, but also exemplifies how underutilised spaces, like airport land, can be transformed into green energy hubs. With further expansion plans to power 30,000 homes, Fiumicino is leading the charge for airports worldwide.
