British Airways Parent IAG Backs Groundbreaking SAF Innovation

British Airways’ parent company, IAG, is betting big on sustainability with a £100 million investment in Wastefront, a game-changer in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry. Wastefront's Sunderland facility will turn up to 10 million waste tyres annually into SAF, slashing emissions by 70% compared to traditional jet fuel.

This investment aligns with the UK’s ambitious SAF targets, which mandate that 22% of jet fuel comes from sustainable sources by 2034. While SAF remains costly, initiatives like the UK government’s revenue certainty mechanism aim to attract more investment and scale production.

Wastefront’s innovation doesn't just reduce aviation's carbon footprint—it also addresses the global issue of tyre waste, often burned or buried abroad. It's a bold step toward greener skies and circular economy solutions.
