Two leading Thai corporations, Banpu Plc, an energy conglomerate, and Amata Corporation, an industrial estate developer, have established a joint venture to deliver a 227-megawatt rooftop solar project across Vietnam’s major industrial parks.
The newly formed Amata Esco Next LLC will oversee the installation of solar systems at Amata City Ha Long and Amata City Long Thanh, covering a combined area of more than 1,000 hectares. The venture has a registered capital of 1.1 million baht (€28,300), with Banpu holding 65% through its subsidiary Esco Next LLC and Amata VN holding 35%.
Construction is set to begin early next year, with Vietnamese solar engineering firm Solar BK appointed to handle construction and maintenance. The cost of development was not disclosed.
The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s National Power Development Plan (PDP VIII), which aims for 47% of total power generation capacity to come from renewables by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. The solar installations are expected to supply clean electricity to factories and tenants within Amata’s industrial zones, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and mitigating local grid pressure.
Smittipon Srethapramote, Chief Executive of Banpu Next, said the collaboration addresses Vietnam’s rising electricity demand while supporting its renewable transition. The company has been expanding its clean energy portfolio across Asia, with projects spanning solar, wind, and energy storage.
Somhatai Panichewa, CEO of Amata VN, added that integrating renewable generation directly into industrial operations will help transform Amata’s parks into green manufacturing hubs, aligning with its 2040 carbon-neutral goal. She noted that this energy model will appeal to global manufacturers prioritising sustainability and cost-efficient power solutions.
