Aloft Dublin City, a four-star hotel in the Liberties district of Dublin 8, has achieved a 40% reduction in its carbon footprint within a single year, a milestone that was originally projected to take four years in collaboration with energy optimisation partner CARDI ENERGY.
As reported by Ireland's Travel and Trade Network, the reduction was driven by targeted energy optimisation, more efficient day-to-day operations, and a shift toward more sustainable suppliers across the property. The hotel holds Green Key certification for environmental and social responsibility and maintains Pinergy 100% clean energy certification.
Operational sustainability measures in place across the hotel include ecolabel-certified laundry detergents, fully plastic-free linen deliveries, zero waste to landfill, and the ongoing digitisation of waste tracking to further sharpen recycling practices.
Roderick Vastenburg, general manager of Aloft Dublin City, said: "At Aloft, sustainability is something we take seriously every day. Hospitality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Our goal is to look after our guests while also taking care of the planet."
Community engagement forms a central pillar of the hotel's sustainability approach. The team participates in monthly clean-up events across the surrounding Liberties area, and a bottle return scheme directs proceeds to the Little Flower Charity. A collaboration with the Dripdrop initiative plants a tree for every umbrella borrowed or rented by guests, resulting in more than 4,300 trees planted to date.
The achievement positions Aloft Dublin City among a small cohort of Irish hospitality properties demonstrating measurable, time-bound progress on carbon reduction an area of increasing importance as sustainability credentials become a key differentiator for corporate and leisure travellers alike.
