Casting back the spotlight to the Green Awards 2026, Vodafone Ireland has been named winner of the Green ICT, Media & Telecommunications Award, recognised earlier this year for one of the most compelling sustainability performances seen across Ireland's ICT and telecoms sector, combining ambitious climate targets with decisive, system-wide action that has delivered outstanding and verifiable environmental results.
The award, announced on 24 February 2026 at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, reflects a sustainable business that has approached its environmental responsibilities with the same rigour and scale it brings to its core connectivity mission.
The headline achievements speak for themselves. One hundred percent renewable electricity, near-total reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and full reuse or recycling of network waste represent a level of sustainability excellence that sets a powerful benchmark for green companies operating in digital infrastructure across Ireland. These outcomes were not incidental but the product of a robust Climate Transition Plan, clear governance structures, and major efficiency upgrades delivered with consistent strategic intent.
The technological dimension of Vodafone Ireland's programme adds further distinction. AI-driven energy management represents genuine environmental innovation in the management of large-scale digital infrastructure, while strong circular economy programmes demonstrate a business thinking carefully about the full lifecycle impact of the physical assets its network depends on. Together, these elements reflect a green business model where sustainability is embedded into operations rather than layered on top of them.
Deep engagement across employees, suppliers, and customers extended the programme's reach beyond Vodafone Ireland's own operations, reinforcing the company's role as a driver of broader sustainability change across the organisations and communities it serves.
Judges delivered an unambiguous verdict. "Vodafone Ireland combined ambitious climate targets with decisive, system-wide action, delivering outstanding results including 100% renewable electricity, near-total reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and full reuse or recycling of network waste. AI-driven energy management, strong circular economy programmes, and major efficiency upgrades were underpinned by clear governance and a robust Climate Transition Plan. With deep engagement across employees, suppliers, and customers, this work sets a powerful benchmark for sustainable digital infrastructure," the panel stated.
