Japanese leasing and financing group Tokyo Century has agreed to buy a 50% stake in Egg Power Finance, forming a joint venture with Egg Power Holdings, the clean energy unit of Liberty Global. The deal gives Tokyo Century a co-investment route into a 212MW portfolio of UK solar and wind projects.

Tokyo Century is listed in Tokyo under ticker 8439 and reported revenues of ¥1,457.7 billion (about €8.2 billion) and net income of ¥111.3 billion (about €620 million) for the year to March 2026. Liberty Global is a Nasdaq-listed telecoms and investment group whose consolidated telecom businesses generate about $3.6 billion in annual revenue (€3.1 billion). Tokyo Century will run Egg Power Finance through its British arm.

The structural driver is long-term corporate offtake. All three sites will operate mainly under long-term power purchase agreements with global enterprises and telecommunications operators, with revenues secured under the Contracts for Difference scheme, a combination that gives overseas financiers visibility of cash flows before committing capital.

The portfolio comprises the 52MW Rag Lane solar park in Gloucestershire, which is already generating, the 70MW Grange solar project in Suffolk and the 90MW Chirmorie wind farm in South Ayrshire. Grange and Chirmorie are under construction and will be commissioned in 2027 and 2028 respectively. Chirmorie is the site of the UK’s largest onshore wind power purchase agreement, signed with Amazon.

Tokyo Century said the investment lets it co-invest in the construction and operation of the three plants and grow its European green energy business. It will explore options to expand the partnership with Egg Power as it aims to build its overseas renewable energy portfolio further.

For the sector, the deal shows Asian leasing and finance groups taking co-ownership stakes in contracted UK renewable portfolios alongside corporate-backed developers, rather than financing individual projects one at a time.
