Pembr, a provider of serviced workspaces in Dublin city centre, has signed a 24-month corporate power purchase agreement with energy supplier Pinergy, linked directly to Largan Hill Wind Farm in County Roscommon.
The deal makes Pembr the first flexible workspace provider in Ireland to sign a corporate power purchase agreement tied to an Irish wind farm, and it lets tenants report verified green electricity use without arranging their own supply.
Pembr manages 30 properties across Dublin and serves international businesses including Expedia, ClickUp, Rippling, Significant Health and Munich Re, alongside Irish companies. Pinergy is a Dublin-headquartered electricity retailer founded in 2013 and majority owned by Japan’s Sojitz Corporation, which reported annual sales of €215 million in 2023, up 38% on the previous year. The agreement was brokered by Procure.ie, Pembr’s energy advisory partner.
The structural driver is Scope 2 reporting pressure on companies that lease their offices. Under the agreement, 100% of the electricity supplied to Pembr’s portfolio will come from Largan Hill, around 1GWh of renewable power a year, which allows tenants to report verified Scope 2 green electricity usage without managing their own utility contracts.
The arrangement forms part of Pinergy’s Guarantee of Origin product, which gives Pembr direct traceability back to the wind farm. Pembr also uses Pinergy’s Acutrace measurement technology at selected locations to monitor consumption and support ESG reporting. The switch is expected to avoid around 198 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Thomas Lenehan, co-owner of Pembr, said “meeting sustainability targets can be difficult for companies that do not manage their own buildings,” and that the agreement lets clients benefit from traceable Irish wind energy for their corporate sustainability reporting.
Shane Maguire, senior energy consultant at Pinergy, said “we are seeing a continued rise in demand from organisations looking to underpin their operations with traceable, Irish-sourced renewable energy and we expect this demand to grow substantially over the coming years.” Pinergy has now secured corporate power purchase agreements covering more than 300 million kilowatt hours of annual Irish wind generation under the Guarantee of Origin offering.
For the sector, Pembr’s agreement shows landlords and workspace operators taking on the energy procurement burden so occupiers can evidence green electricity use in their own sustainability reporting.
