Microsoft makes bold carbon removal move in India

Microsoft has secured a 30-year deal to purchase 1.5 million tonnes of carbon removal credits from an ambitious afforestation project in India. Developed by Climate Impact Partners and Terra Natural Capital, the initiative will restore 20,000 hectares of degraded land, support local communities, and drive long-term carbon reduction.

This marks Microsoft’s largest carbon removal project in the APAC region and signals a new era of corporate-backed climate action. By combining investment, expertise, and nature-based solutions, the project sets a precedent for high-quality, scalable carbon removal initiatives.
