US-based engineering and construction firm McDermott International has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, presenting verified progress across emissions reduction, energy management, safety performance, and lower-carbon infrastructure delivery.
As reported by Dredgewire, the report obtained voluntary limited assurance from Ernst & Young LLP on Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, prepared in accordance with multiple international frameworks including the Global Reporting Initiative Standards, the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures, and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards.
Key figures include a 20% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions against a 2020 baseline, with 92% of grid electricity demand sourced from renewables. The company recorded a Total Recordable Incident Rate of 0.09, outperforming industry averages. ISO 50001 energy management certification was extended to three marine vessels alongside continued certification across major fabrication yards.
Michael McKelvy, CEO and chair of the board, said: "Our disciplined execution and innovation drove meaningful progress in 2025. We delivered complex, lower-carbon energy infrastructure with industry-leading safety while partnering with customers to meet their performance and sustainability objectives."
Rachel Clingman, executive vice president and chief legal officer, added that strengthened systems and third-party assurance reinforce data integrity, supporting reliable, decision-useful insights that support energy efficiency, emissions management and lifecycle-based project choices.
Project highlights include progress on sustainable aviation fuel facilities in North America and Europe, a first-of-its-kind green steel project in Europe, and high-voltage direct current infrastructure supporting offshore wind expansion. A circularity calculator assured to ISO 59020 standard was also introduced for lifecycle-based project assessments.
Participation in internal training programmes doubled year-on-year.Access McDermott's full 2025 Sustainability Report on the company's website.
