Scotland is betting big on hydrogen as it pushes toward a net zero future by 2045. Acting Energy Secretary Gillian Martin has called it “one of Scotland’s greatest industrial opportunities” since the North Sea oil and gas boom — and a vital part of the country's energy transition.

To accelerate momentum, £3.4 million in government funding will be spread across 11 hydrogen-focused projects, spanning green hydrogen production, supply chain resilience, and infrastructure for storage and transport. The initiative aims to ensure no community is left behind in the shift away from fossil fuels, while also positioning hydrogen as a driver of long-term economic growth and industrial revitalisation.

For business leaders in sustainability, the message is clear — hydrogen isn't just part of the energy conversation; it’s becoming central to it.
