Ireland’s largest ever bioeconomy research call is now open, offering €5 million to co-fund collaborative projects between companies and researchers. Targeting sectors from agri-food to marine, forestry, and biotechnology, the initiative seeks to push sustainable innovation from concept to market.

The opportunity comes as businesses face growing pressure to cut emissions, reduce waste, and embrace circular models. Past collaborations have already delivered results ahead of national climate targets, from carbon-neutral farming to advances in bio-based plastics, bioenergy, and waste-to-value processes.

With funding available for solutions spanning AI-enabled bioeconomy systems, sustainable marine and forestry operations, bioplastics, bioenergy, and wastewater bioremediation, the scope for commercial and environmental impact is significant.
