Co-op is stepping up for sustainability with an £820,000 fund aimed at helping beef, lamb, and dairy farmers slash carbon emissions and boost biodiversity. Through two cutting-edge projects, Co-op is putting its money where its mouth is—rewarding farmers not just for their produce but for adopting greener, more efficient practices.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

  • For Dairy Farmers: A collaboration with Soil Association Exchange will support 140 farmers with action plans to cut carbon footprints, improve soil health, and invest in renewable energy.
  • For Beef and Lamb Farmers: After a successful pilot, the Beef Sustainability Scheme is scaling up to include 15% of Co-op’s beef supply chain and, for the first time, lamb farmers.

The results? Over 100,000 tonnes of carbon savings in the next five years and a strengthened commitment to 100% British-sourced meat, poultry, and dairy products.

Why it matters: Co-op’s initiative is a powerful example of how retailers can champion environmental stewardship while addressing farmers’ challenges in a changing climate.
