UK-based food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group has appointed Chris Tyas OBE as chair of its newly established carbon board, created to drive the company's net zero by 2035 commitment and provide strategic counsel on supply chain resilience.

As reported by Wattagnet, Tyas brings more than 40 years of supply chain leadership experience across the global food industry, with senior roles at Mars and Nestlé among his career credentials. He currently serves as chair of GS1 UK, a not-for-profit standards organisation delivering traceability and data-sharing infrastructure to support more informed, sustainable, and safer choices across business and consumer supply chains.

Tyas said he was immediately engaged by the bold vision of Ranjit Boparan and his team to lead the way in ensuring a strong, sustainable and responsible future of food for the UK and beyond, describing the net zero ambition as "ambitious but certainly achievable."

Ranjit Boparan, president of Boparan Holdings, parent company of 2 Sisters Food Group, said the appointment would deliver specialist expertise to the company's NextGen agenda, a strategy to develop a food system supporting healthy diets and a healthy planet. "We are making our biggest ever investment in the future of food, developing next generation factories and farms, to provide sustainable, nutritious, affordable, quality food that is kinder to the planet," he said.

Tyas has also taken up a lead role in the company's Incident Management Team, focused on maintaining business continuity during the current period of Middle East conflict-driven disruption to global food supply chains.

2 Sisters Food Group is one of the UK's largest food manufacturers, supplying poultry, chilled and bakery products to major retailers and foodservice operators across Britain and Europe.
